Don't Forget Your Ankle this Summer

Anklets are another Noughties throwback taking the catwalks by storm. Perhaps the street-style's of fashion week were inspired by the anklet obsession evident at the spring/summer 2020 and autumn/winter 2020 shows, where almost every attendee showed up with colourful bag in hand; sparkling anklet on foot.

Interlocking chain-link styles were particularly popular, while shell-adorned iterations were used to pep up slides.

Some designers took the trend one step further, unveiling shoes with anklets built in – Gucci, Missoni, Versace and Oscar de la Renta all presented bedazzled footwear at their spring/summer 2020 shows.

An anklet is not only for the summer months but can also be adorned and adapted for a stylish winter look.

Is a Face Mask the New Accessory for 2020?

I have noticed that even though peoples faces are covered they are still representing their style and embracing the face mask as an accessory to complete an outfit even though they signify social distance practices we are having to adhere to during this pandemic.

These face coverings have the power to start a conversation, which even though our faces are covered we can still socially interact with one another.   And express our personality and style.

Another example of how the mask can bring people together is photographer Laura Fuchs who has been capturing New Yorkers who are trying to stay positive in the midst of the pandemic.
Armed with a face mask, gloves and a camera, she maintains a distance of 6ft (2m) as she photographs the smiles behind the dust masks, ventilators and N95s.
There are over 330,000 coronavirus cases in New York City, and over 26,000 deaths according to John Hopkins University.

The Smile Behind the Mask

I love how we are beginning to embrace this new accessory .  It is a function but people are making it into a feature that represents themselves.  \Have a great day and stay safe x

Socks With Sandals?

This trend is usually associated with dads and tourists, street style has seen an appreciation for the socks with sandals trend over the last few years. Because of this we are seeing a lot of great styles of socks to add to our accessory draw! Also I think due to the current situation of a global pandemic it means we are wanting to dress more for comfort but still with that little bit of style and socks with sandals offers that quirky street style look in an instant.

This trend was also spotted throughout spring and summer collections for 2020.  Platform sandals paired with socks and a bucket hat alongside a lace dress and wooden sandals and colourful sock.  Gucci have been on this band wagon for a while and I personally find it to be a great way to add a little more of your styling personality to your outfit.

I did a pole on my Instagram @poppykreid and it was a resounding NO! but I love the look.  Have a go and see what you can come up with and link me on my #showusurthreads.

Have a great day and stay safe xx

The Met Gala 2020

So due to the current situation The Met Gala 2020 will not be going ahead on the first Monday of May.  So I thought I would look at some of the fantastic outfits we have seen at the Met Gala in the past and what them theme was for the 2020 gala.

The Met Gala is a fundraiser for the Met Museum it raises money for the museum and all of its exhibitions.  I have been to this museum and it is sensational a must see and do if you ever go to New York.

The Met Gala 2020 theme is "About Time: Fashion Duration", and is partly inspired by Virginia Woolf and the theories of the French philosopher Henri Bergson.

The curator in charge of the Costume Institute of the Met- Andrew Bolton - spoke about the theme to The New York Times: " Fashion is indelibly connected to time.  It not only reflects and represents the spirit of the times, but it also changes and develops with the times".

The theme for the 2019 red carpet was "Camp: Notes on Fashion", inspired by Susan Sontag's 1964 essay "Notes on 'Camp'".

In 2018, Catholicism ruled the celebrity runway thanks to the theme of "Heavenly Bodies: Fashion and the Catholic Imagination.
To me the Met Gala is a celebration of fashion and how it is influenced by culture and society.

See you next week stay safe.

Jewellery Trends 2020

Even though we are on a global lock-down right now does not mean that you cannot play about with fashion.  In-fact it is the perfect time to play dress up and see what treasures you have hiding away in your closets, wardrobes and jewellery boxes.

The trends we saw on the runway shows of all the fashion weeks for Spring Summer 2020 were colourful jewellery, the single earring, oversized chains, pearls and big hoops.  I am sure that you will have at least one of these trends sitting in your jewellery box. The single earring for sure!

Here are a few of my favourite looks with these trends.

Forget sticking to gold and silver, designers brought on an explosion of colour for Spring 2020's jewellery. There were bright floral and beaded pieces, gemstones at Brandon Maxwell, and mismatched colours at Marc Jacobs. Channelling our inner kids, the look is all about having fun with your accessories. And this look is so much fun!!

Pearls are going strong for Spring 2020. The classic material made appearances in just about every form—from single drop earrings to layered necklaces and even on headpieces.
